Call for Expressions of Interest: Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship supported by John Fell Fund
Please note, the following information outlines an internal pre-application selection process. It is not authorisation to make an application to the Leverhulme Trust through this Institution.
These three-year Fellowships are aimed to support those at a relatively early stage of their academic careers - that is, with a viva since March 2013 - but with a proven record of volume and quality of research.
The Leverhulme Trust believes that the development of an academic career is best served by gaining experience at different institutions. Priority will be given to applicants who show evidence of mobility during their academic careers to date. The intention is to support the career development of those building an academic career within the UK.
Interested candidates should consult the Leverhulme website for full details of the scheme, including further information about eligibility.
The award requires matched funding from the institution. The John Fell Fund will provide matching funding for six applications from the Humanities Division to the Leverhulme Trust; the faculty is invited to propose not more than two. In addition, where at least 50% or more of the matching institutional funds come from elsewhere in the collegiate university (e.g. via a college or trust fund), the remainder will also be matched by the Fell Fund. These opportunities will be extra to the two nominations permitted above.
The Leverhulme Early Career Fellow will normally be appointed by the Faculty of Oriental Studies in the first three points of University Grade 7, depending on experience.
Call for Expressions of Interest
The Faculty of Oriental Studies now invites expressions of interest from potential applicants in any field of Oriental Studies who wish to be considered for the faculty’s support in applying to the Leverhulme scheme.
Expressions of interest must be received by noon on Monday 9 January 2017 and should include the following:
- a 150 word abstract summarising the research for a general audience;
- a one-page CV with education, publications, awards (if any), thesis title and examiners;
- a maximum two-page statement of research (see the Leverhulme Trust guidance);
- an indication of what additional research expenses may be claimed;
- one internal or two external letters of reference, e-mailed direct by the referees to email@example.com (‘internal’ meaning from a member of the Faculty of Oriental Studies);
Expressions of interest should be e-mailed to Thomas Hall, Head of Administration and Finance, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Do not apply directly to the Leverhulme Trust.
Interviews will not be held. Nominees will be selected by a panel appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and all applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application as soon as possible after the closing date.
Further information may be obtained from our website: http://www.orinst.ox.ac.uk/ or by e-mailing the Head of Administration and Finance at the address above.
