Tibetan and Himalayan Studies at Undergraduate level

Tibetan and Himalayan Studies is currently being offered as a three-paper option for undergraduate students taking the B.A. in Chinese Studies or the B.A. in Japanese, and a two-paper option for students studying for the B.A. in Sanskrit.

The course covers the language and literature of Tibet, and focusses on the history and culture of Tibet, Nepal, and the Himalayan regions of northern India.

Tibetan language teaching will be based on Nicolas Tournadre and Sangda Dorje’s Manual of Standard Tibetan (Ithaca, Snow Lion Publications, 2003). Training in language and literature will be supplemented by a series of lectures and tutorials aimed at presenting an outline of the history and culture of Tibet and the Himalayas.
