Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies meets UK Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia

Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Chair Henrietta Harrison and Leyla Najafzada, Director of the Oxford Birsöz Initiative, met with Lord John Alderdice, UK trade envoy to Azerbaijan and Central Asia at Wolfson College for a discussion on the University of Oxford’s engagement with the Central Asian region.

The conversation focused on Oxford University’s commitment to deepening understanding of Central Asia through research, education, and cultural exchange, including interdisciplinary scholarship, language study, and teaching initiatives. It also explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration with the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, with particular emphasis on the languages and cultures of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The discussion reflected Oxford University’s ongoing academic engagement with Central Asia and its role in advancing long-term scholarly collaboration and knowledge exchange.
